The historic Jake’s burger joint has been in Pasadena since opening in 1947. The current owner Chipper Pastron, was the original owner before selling it to Greg Stevens who eventually let it go in 2015.
Pastron planned to reopen in March of 2020, but had to put his plan on the back burners when COVID-19 hit and caused everyone to close down and start quarantine. Here we are a year later, and Jake’s is up and running serving food to die for.
“Jake’s is really a part of the community here in Pasadena and I just wanted it to return, my kids came here, and I used to hangout here it was just a place where people came and hung out and I wanted to bring that back to Pasadena,” Pastron shares.
Old Town Pasadena is a 22 bock Nationally Registered Historic District. It is filled with late 19th to early 20th-century architecture. As locals refer to it as “Old Pas,” it is loved and enjoyed by so many people. It offers open-air shopping plazas, long strips of retailers and restaurants and hidden laneways for romantic strolls throughout Colorado Boulevard.
Customers from all over Pasadena and even farther out are happy to have this beloved establishment back.
“I’m excited that Jake’s is finally reopened, I used to make the commute from Burbank so now that I live in Pasadena, It’s great to have them back,” says long time customer Austin Marx.
The public can see the best part of the restaurant from the outside with its old red exterior and black awning, which is hard to miss. Not only are patrons able to experience the feel of the restaurant, but the food enhances the experience with classic diner food including their original Angus Beef Burger, handmade French Fries, craft beers and much more.
The Pandemic resulted in many businesses closing permanently and the unemployment rate rising. Roughly 200,000 U.S. establishments that were open the first year of the COVID-19 viral outbreak are closed now. To see Jake’s survival and revival is good for the community.
